meet Cooper

Cooper Gillespie has always pushed the boundaries of genre and sound, embodying the raw energy of punk while evolving into the ethereal realms of dream pop.

As the singer-bassist of Bang Sugar Bang, Cooper made her mark on the Los Angeles punk scene in the early 2000s, co-founding the Kiss or Kill collective, which became a haven for bands that didn’t fit the industry molds of Sunset Strip or Silver Lake. IN 2012, A MOVIE WAS MADE ABOUT THE KISS OR KILL SCENE CALLED IN HEAVEN THERE IS NO BEER.

Bang Sugar Bang’s high-energy performances and punk anthems garnered widespread recognition, including spots on NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Grey’s Anatomy. THEY RECORDED ALBUMS WITH LUMINARIES SUCH AS STEVE ALBINI AND GEZA X AND SHARED THE STAGE WITH legendarY ARTISTS SUCH AS the Dead Kennedys, The ADICTS, EXENE CERVENKA, AND NINA HAGEN, TO NAME A FEW.

After releasing three albums, the band parted ways in 2007, but not without leaving a legacy, recently revisited with their comeback album Invisible City.

Transitioning from the gritty streets of L.A., Cooper found a new home in the Mojave Desert, where she formed Landroid with drummer and collaborator Greg Gordon.

Landroid is a dream pop duo that blends haunting vocals with lush soundscapes, a stark contrast from Cooper’s punk roots but no less impactful. GRIMY GOODS DESCRIBES Their music as “somewhere between Pink Floyd and Beach House.” IT explores vast, cinematic themes of transformation, nature, and the human experience.

Tracks like Yellow Sea and So Say We All demonstrate their ability to create both intimate and expansive sound worlds, drawing on influences ranging from David Bowie to Blade Runner.

Now residing in the desert town of Landers, California, Cooper’s creative journey continues to evolve, as Landroid explores the delicate balance between the ephemeral and the eternal.

Their debut album Imperial Dunes and its singles have been praised for their kaleidoscopic blend of shoegaze, ethereal vocals, and powerful rhythms.

Whether in the punk underground or in the wide-open expanse of dream pop, Cooper’s music remains deeply personal, resonating with fans who seek authenticity and emotional depth.
